Carbon microphone
Housed in a nickel-plated casing with a black plastic base. Suitable for radio broadcasting, theater use, or public address systems. It was also available with a stand and a spring-based suspension system. The standard design - featuring a metal diaphragm and carbon - was replaced by a narrow shaped Bakelite channel across the front of the microphone, with a carbon electrode positioned at each end. The intervening space is filled with a specially imported granulated carbon material, held in place by a very thin rubber diaphragm. For optimal performance, the microphone requires approximately 25 volts of direct current and has an internal resistance of 500 ohms. It draws a current of only 60 milliamperes, allowing for exceptionally high sensitivity. According to Amplion's engineers, sounds produced at an average speaking volume are audible from a distance of up to 60 feet (approx. 18 meters).
