Crystal receiver

This simple set for headphone use is housed in a small polished mahogany case. It bears the 'Gecophone' logo on the front of the set and the "Entirely British Manufacture" BBC transfer on the back of the set. Connection points for the aerial, earth, optional coil, glass enclosed galena detector and headphones are provided, and the controls comprise a tuning knob and a lever to adjust the cat's whisker.

Tuning uses a variable condenser. Turning the knob will change the resonant frequency of the tuned circuit. A separate coil could be used for the reception of long wave. Two people could listen to the radio at the same time. Two antenna lengths "A" (long) and "B" (medium) can  be used.
The set would have cost 16s in 1926; an extra 7s 6d for a 1600 m long wave coil.
