Ir Louis Christiaan Kalff, (1897–1976) did a lot of design work for Philips. Kalff started his career in 1925 as chief of the Philips Advertising Studio. He made designs for posters, advertisements, brochures, folders and package materials. He also designed radios (the Philips 2501, 2502 and 2514) and disc loudspeakers (e.g. the Philips 2003). He was an architect as well and in this capacity designed a number of Philips factories and the Evoluon.

Kalff was active as designer of posters (Holland-America line, Jaarbeurs Fair in Utrecht, Calvé) and exhibitions. As an architect he designed the Sterrenkundig Observatorium (Astronomical Observatory) in Eindhoven.
